World Book Day 2014
Yesterday Strand celebrated World Book Day with some cracking costumes as usual. We can always rely on Strand families to rise to a costume challenge and this year was no different! We saw Gandalf, Willy Wonka and an Oompa Loompa, Tintin, 101 Dalmatians and Cruella De Ville to name but a few. The theme of this year’s event was different ways of telling a story and Mrs Jennings ended the day with a special assembly where the children were challenged to decide what came first the book or the film. There were quite a few surprises and the children were shocked that some of their favourite films had been books first! The message was that stories can be told in many ways but a good story is always the starting point – whether it is a traditional tale, a play by Shakespeare or a reworking of a classic. The children had a great day pursuing literary activities from book reviews to book marks. Thank you to Mrs Jennings who organised the day's festivities.
