Strandite Wins Ruth Cadbury’s Christmas Card Competition

We welcomed Ruth Cadbury, MP for Brentford and Isleworth, into assembly yesterday to announce that the design chosen for her card this year was created by our very own Edwin (Yr 6). The stunning design will look great as a card and we are all very proud of Edwin. Ruth is treating Edwin and his mum to afternoon tea at the Houses of Parliament followed by a tour of the building in the new year – what an opportunity!

Whilst we had a captive audience the children took the opportunity to ask Ruth some tricky questions about her work as an MP and life in the Commons. The questions were excellent and didn’t shy away from the key issue of the day – Brexit! Harvey D cut to the chase opening with ‘What are your views on Brexit?’ which was followed by Finn C’s searching question, reminiscent of recent debates on Question Time, asking ‘What is your position on Deal or No deal?’. As ever the children showed a great understanding of the democratic process, and shared their perceptive queries about key issues such as transport, food banks and whether Theresa May was a nice person. Edwin’s winning design is featured here – he created it using colouring pencils so you can imagine the time he took to achieve the painstaking detail. An artist in the making – well done Edwin.
