Strand Wins Gold Bike IT Award
Gold Bike It Award Presented by Madam Deputy Mayor
There was great excitement yesterday as it was announced that Strand had achieved the Gold Bike It Award! Strand are the first school in London to achieve this award, and in recognition of this fantastic achievement, the Deputy Mayor presented the award to our team of Bike Marshalls at a special assembly packed with visitors from the Local Authority. Special guests of honour were Joe and William, who have been bike marshalls for the whole four years of our involvement in the Bike It project before moving onto secondary school in July. Emilie, our Bike IT officer, had put together a fantastic montage of all the cycling projects and initiatives we have run over the last 4 years and it was staggering how many events we have managed to pack in! We are really proud that we have encouraged so many children to cycle or scoot to school rather than take the car – hopefully those good habits will last and Strandites will grow up to be healthy and responsible citizens. The current marshalls, Alessia, Charlie, Dylan, Matthew, Oscar and Wilf, closed the assembly by reminding the school that our commitment to cycling will not stop and they have planned a whole year of exciting events – in fact they have been out sleuthing bikes and scooters this week! A huge thank you to all the families who have encouraged children to cycle and scoot – it really has been a whole school effort! Our challenge now is to keep the cycling habit and enthuse our Year 3 families to cycle to school to keep the momentum going. Watch out for Strand appearing in the press over the next few days.
