Strand Qualifies for Indoor Athletics Final (Again!)

Last Friday Mr A took along with him the 16 athletes selected to represent the school at the Indoor sportshall athletics qualifier at Chiswick School. Nine west Hounslow schools were vying to gain a spot in next January's Borough finals. The afternoon got off to a quick start with both boys (Eli and Ji-Sang) and girls (Daniella and Suzie) winning their 1x1 lap relays, importantly recording very quick times which are then converted into points. With points in mind, the team did not let up with their efforts even though they were in a weaker side of the draw for race opponents on the day. Continued success came in the 4x1 lap relays and in the 2x2 lap and 6 lap events. In the 'field' events, Joe absolutely smashed the speed bounce competition with an astounding 49 jumps in 30 seconds; scoring a maximum 16 points for his team. Other stand out performances here came from Pray-Anna in the standing long jump and Nikole in the standing triple jump. Compiling high scores throughout the afternoon meant that by the time the results were announced it was a foregone conclusion that we had indeed qualified (in fact we have never not qualified if Mr A is being totally honest!). Having won the Year 3 and 4 title earlier this year we are looking forward to the Borough finals after the Christmas break and the chance to ‘do the double!’
