Strand to Represent Hounslow in London Athletics Final
This week Strand again travelled to ‘Goals Osterley to take part in the Borough Finals of the Sports Hall Athletics. Strand were down to the last sixteen and keen to win as this was the one borough title that had eluded us over the years. The competition was fierce as the children competed in a variety of individual and team events. The events included a standing triple jump, standing long jump, standing high jump, chest push, speed bounce, obstacle race and team relay. Strandites notched up an impressive number of individual and team wins with lots of our competitors being scouted for local clubs, an indication of the fantastic talent on display. At the end, the results were revealed in reverse order and the team waited with bated breath for Strand’s name to be mentioned. Eventually there were just three schools who had not been named, St Mary’s Isleworth, St Mary’s Chiswick and Strand! Having been beaten by St Mary’s Chiswick in the heats, Mr Allkins and the squad were expecting third place but, to the team’s amazement, Strand were announced as winners. The team were overjoyed and have been sporting their medals all week! Strand now go on to represent Hounslow in the London finals – quite an achievement. Well done to Aidan A, Javell, JJ, Jake, Tom P, Micah, Muhammad, Miles, Constance, Matilda, Chloe F, Jasmine, Georgia, Cleo, Flo and Claudia, all of whom put in brilliant performances – and good luck!
