Sports Update
Well done to our sports teams who have represented the school in the autumn term. Fantastic
performances have seen success for our athletes: 3rd in the girls cross country running event and 3rd out of 47 teams in the Borough Indoor sports day! The quality of sport in the borough is extremely high and our elite athletes have performed admirably and with great spirit. These tournaments are organised by Sport Impact for the elite athletes in each school, allowing the top performers to compete against other children of similar high ability. The selection for these events is based upon a number of factors including performances in PE lessons, pre-tournament trials, observations of playground sports abilities and informal chats with local sport club coaches. Whilst we would like to offer the opportunity for all to represent the school, the reality is that not all children will be able to. However, provision for competitive sport is also made within school and is open to everyone through after-school sports clubs, Sports Fests (where children represent their team in a competitive football, netball or rugby tournament) and, of course, in small-sided games run during lessons. This is different to our Sports Day where the ethos is focused on inclusive
participation with a number of races set aside for the fastest athletes to compete against each other
(selected in open trials completed beforehand). We are looking forward now to the Spring and Summer terms where Year 3 and 4 events are traditionally organised by Sport Impact running alongside the Year 5/6 events. Watch this space for more Strand Sporting Successes!
