Strand on the Green Junior School

It's been a Chesstastic Week at Strand

It's been a Chesstastic Week at Strand

The Strand chess team have been extremely busy this week, having hosted matches against both William Hogarth and John Betts. On Monday, William Hogarth brought 16 of their strongest chess players to take on a range of Strandites from across the school. Despite beating William Hogarth last term, Strand did not take their opponents for granted, playing with high levels of concentration which allowed them to produce another convincing victory by 13 wins to 2 with one stalemate. A special mention to Dani in Year 4 for stepping in for an absentee at the last minute and getting a win! Still high-spirited from the previous day’s result, the chess team played host to John Betts’ team of 30 on Tuesday afternoon. The match consisted of each player playing two 20 minute matches against different opponents. When the scores were totalled at the end of the afternoon, Strand were triumphant by a considerable margin once again, with a total of 40 wins to 20! Also, a big well done to all the members of Mr Dienn’s chess club who competed in the Delancey competition throughout this term, winning badges, gold spots and mascots along the way. Finally, congratulations to Gabriel for winning the competition, who, alongside Ronan, Luca, Sam, Sophia, Stan, Aniela and Charlie, has qualified for the Nationwide Megafinal stage of the competition.
