Grow a Pound

We have launched our ‘Grow a Pound’ project, a scheme designed to give children experience of money management by raising funds for their leavers’ hoodies. Since Strand adopted the leavers' hoodie tradition a number of years ago, Year 6 have participated in'Grow a Pound' as a way of covering the cost of the hoodies. The challenge provides a good introduction to managing finances and entrepreneurial skills and also offers the chance to leave a legacy for future Year 6 children, as the money raised each year is passed on to help pay for the next year’s hoodies. The children have been given their £1 stake and will now be thinking carefully about their business in order to ‘grow’ their investment into profit. Watch out Dragon’s Den!
