Football Success

On Wednesday Strand took a football team to Heston Community School for the Select Academy tournament. Charlie R, Gus, Harry, Joe and Muhhammad (All Yr6) Jenom, Zaid and Zak (Yr4) represented the senior football team for the first time whilst David (Yr5) is a veteran of the squad! Things started well with a 4-0 win over Berkeley Primary. We then took a 4-1 defeat against Green Dragon to deflate our confidence however Zak helped the team to bounce back by scoring 6 in a 7-1 victory over Rosary Primary. With goal difference looking important, a 4-1 win over Chatsworth was ideal! Goals here included 2 from David, another from Zak (who ended up with 14 for the tournament!) and a pile-driver freekick from Charlie

R that was heading over the bar until the goalkeeper knocked it into the top corner! Three teams in our qualifying group had won 3 and lost 1 - but with our superior goal difference, Strand topped the group!! A brilliant achievement in itself as we were the only team to take any lower school pupils! The team made a good start against Hounslow town in the semi final but eventually lost 3-1. The 3rd/4th place play-off saw Strand ease to a 7-1 victory over Chatsworth again. A fantastic achievement for the boys. Well done!!
