On Tuesday the Year 5/6 Football team participated in the borough finals tournament that they qualified for in the previous week. Taking part at Feltham Community College on a wet and windy afternoon, the team got off to a great start by comfortably winning their first game 3-0 against Wellington with David K playing very well. Gritty 0-0 draws followed against a strong Bedfont team and a well organised St Lawrence team. We then produced some attractive passing football to see off Springwell 1-0, a stunning headed goal by Jake H being the highlight of the match. Two more 1-0 victories against Marlborough and St Mary's Isleworth secured progress to the knockout stages. Special mentions to Aidan A whose lobbed goal took everyone by surprise, and Miles whose perseverance paid off by nicking a goal from an improbably tight angle. Heading into the Semi-finals confidence was high, especially as we had not conceded a goal in the tournament so far. Super defending from Javell B, Cameron O and Ronan A helped Stan keep 6 clean sheets in a row! The formidable St Michael and St Martin's team were next in our sights. A brilliant performance by the team saw them through 2-1 and set up a final against St Lawrence who had easily won their semi. Watched by eager fans Strand started confidently and had numerous early chances. St Lawrence were struggling to get out of their half and resorted to clearing the ball anywhere they could. More opportunities came and sadly went but the game ended 0-0 and finally went to extra time. Against all odds St Lawrence managed to score a goal with their first real passage of possession and the Strand team looked shell-shocked. The game ended 1-0. A brilliant effort from the team saw them come 2nd out of the 38 schools that entered the competition. Well Done!
