Cross Country Champions

On Tuesday Strand took a team of our elite athletes to Feltham Community College for the Hounslow Borough Cross Country Championships. A 2km long course over muddy fields awaited them and the biting wind made the course very tricky indeed. The boys set off first with Aidan A and Joe H setting the pace. Soon JJ had joined them and they were sitting in a good place just behind the leaders. Miles C and Muhhamad B were not far behind. As the pace quickened and legs got tired, Joe H pushed on. With 200m to go Aidan and JJ were lying in 12th and 13th place respectively. A timely reminder by Mr A to get a move on and sprint to the finish saw Joe finish a brilliant 3rd , Aidan 4th and JJ 5th . We just needed one of the other boys to get into the top 15 to have a chance of being Borough Champions for the first time. Miles obliged by running down 4 boys in the last few metres to finish 13th and seal a famous victory! Muhhamad came in a very respectable 16th out of 43.

The girls ran next with Flo R setting off at such a fast pace she was clearly leading by the time they had reached the second bend. Sophia C was trying her best to keep up with Flo - what fantastic determination! Bella B and Georgia S were nestled in the middle of the chasing pack finding the pace and slippy conditions tricky to contend with. After the first km Flo was still going strong but was now being chased by a breakaway group of girls from St Mary's Chiswick. A resilience not seen before from Flo kept her ahead with 200m to go but rounding the last bend she looked over her shoulder to see St Mary's closing! How she had the energy to sprint finish is beyond Mr A's comprehension but she sped past the finish line as individual Borough Champion!!! An amazing run! Our other girls all finished the course and should be very proud of their achievements with Bella in 17th , Georgia in 19th and Sophia 40th. Well Done to our team!! Certificates to be given out in Monday's assembly.

Can you tell we’re proud of them?
