Strand on the Green Junior School

Black History Week

Black History Week

Thank you to Sorcha Kennedy-Alexander for organizing a brilliant Black History Week packed with fun. The children throughout the school have been printing traditional Kente cloth and making some fantastic traditional patterns. During the week the children have been learning about the inner strength needed to stand up against injustice and how the values that underpin our learning at Strand are important to great leaders. Year 3 were lucky enough to have a visit from Sara, Aymen and Aya's mum, who led a session on leadership. The focus of her session was on leaders and how all leaders have the Strand values inside of them. She led a visioning activity where the children thought about how they could make their own history by creating their future. Each child thought about what they would like to achieve and made a pledge. Next they reflected on how they could fulfil their pledge by following the Strand values and most importantly, believing in themselves. Thank you to Sara for making the activity so inspiring – the perfect culmination to our Black History Week.
