Strand on the Green Junior School

Athletics Team Shine in Borough Athletics

Athletics Team Shine in Borough Athletics

On Wednesday we took ten athletes to Osterley athletics track to compete in the borough finals of the quad kids event. Quad kids replicates the four main principles of athletics: sprinting, throwing, jumping and long distance running. The distances jumped or thrown and the times of the runs are tallied up against a standardised scoring system that rewards achievements with points. The faster the run, the more points you get. The Strand athletes had to qualify from the Hounslow East region in order to be here and were raring to go in the June sunshine at Osterley track. The 75m sprinting was first and although Justin slipped at the beginning he still recorded a time of 10.7 seconds - gaining an impressive 63 points for us! Suzie led the girls with a super fast 11.5 second dash gaining 55 points to add to our total. In the vortex throw Eli threw 6m further than the UKA (UK Athletics) Gold medal winning distance of 32m! This gained Strand a massive 77 points! Daniella jumped 2.10m in the standing long jump scoring an impressive 64 points for her efforts. Once all the athletes scores had been recorded, the top four from the girls and boys are then added together to see which team has the highest total. Strand amassed a huge 1606 points. Just a few points behind Borough champions Fairholme. Brilliant achievements from Ji Sang, Joe, Eli, Justin, Jaiden in the boys squad and Daniella, Lily, Suzie, Eden and Cadee Ann in the girls squad. Well Done to the team for coming second in the borough!
