Are You Allergy Aware?
Assembly this morning focused on how we, the adults in school, work hard to keep children safe in school by having rules and routines we all follow. One of the things we touched on was how we keep our children with allergies safe and the role everyone in the school community plays in doing this. The children knew why they must not trade food with their friends or bring foods in, such as nuts, which others may be allergic to. Families play a vital role in this by not sending nuts or nut products into school, either as part of packed lunches or for bake sales and events. To exclude every allergen from school is impossible so we do not claim to be an allergen free school but we do aim to educate all our children to take responsibility for ensuring we are allergen aware and think about the foods we bring into school. Year 6 have put that into action this week when preparing food for the Harvest Supper where we have gluten, nut and dairy free soup on offer with each soup being accompanied with its own ingredients list to make sure everyone knows exactly what they are eating.
