Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

In Year 5 we have had a busy Spring and Summer term! In Spring our learning has had a Geography focus. We have been learning all about living in Chiswick and comparing it to life in Ringsfield. We had a visit from a local estate agent to launch our topic and, once we had worked hard researching Chiswick and visited Ringsfield, we set up our own estate agents using all that we had learnt and our persuasion skills to sell the city or the country! The highlight of the term was our annual visit to Ringsfield! A fantastic time was had by all, and we started to earning our Keys to becoming an Earthkeeper which we are now continuing at school. As part of this we went to visit the recycling centre in Chiswick and just before the Easter break we had a visit from Sarah Baulch, a local designer, who showed us how to turn old fabrics into decorative bunting! We set up a stall at the Summer Fair and raised £60 for school funds selling our bunting!

We had fun in the mud!

It was interesting to compare going to school in a city with going to school in the countryside

We built our own dens

Ringsfield

“Ringsfield is a great place to live with long, luxurious meadows all over the land. All that the eye can see is agriculture for miles on end. There is a beautiful pebble beach which has a great history. I hope I can go there again.” Ollie Tait

“At Ringsfield my highlight was the campfire. I felt happy and it was fun. I liked getting stuck in the mud. I got badly stuck so Alfie had to pull me out.” Karan Thakur

“Ringsfield was a great experience which I really enjoyed. I made lots of new friends and I recommend you go because you will enjoy it and the animals. My memories were fantastic. Dunwich beach was breathtaking and Ringsfield was so quiet and peaceful.” Ezra Allen

“I like Ringsfield because it was fun, new and interesting. I learned how to stay away from home and be tidier. My highlight was making dens, dampers and being outside. I loved my magic spot but I couldn’t see much.” Gloria Jones

“My highlight of Ringsfield would be feeding the guinea pigs. I learnt all about the earth, that the earth needs to stop getting polluted. A key memory of sitting in my magic spot was listening to the birds.” Tyrese Walters-Lawrence

“My highlight of Ringsfield was getting stuck in the mud. Firstly, Cecily got stuck, so Stacey tried pulling her out. Unfortunately, Stacey got stuck, so I tried getting her out. Then, I got stuck so Mrs Brooks pulled me out! I learnt that if you tried getting someone out of the mud, you have a good chance of getting stuck as well.” Caitlin Woodley

“My highlight was during freetime when we built a bridge and had to find a lot of sticks. I learnt a lot about nature and different habitats. I liked the magic spots because they were really quiet and peaceful.” Jack Mullin

“Dunwich beach was great. My friends and I walked along the beach hearing the crunch of pebbles underneath our feet. As I made my Andy Goldsworthy art, I brushed a pebble and saw the buttercup yellow sand and the aqua marine blue sea. But then, I lost the moment as I was freezing!” Sabina Culver

“I learnt that you should never put things that can be recycled in the bin, because you’re not doing our planet any good.” Ayden Davies

I learnt about the earth and that one little thing you do, can cause a big problem. My magic spot moment was when everyone closed the curtain and was silent.” Nikola Ivic

Heathfield Terrace has desirable housing and a great view of Turnham Green.

Chiswick

“My highlight was Chiswick Business Park because I had lots of fun there learning about the heron, making bee bottles, learning about the 3 R’s and how Chiswick Park does their part for the environment. I learnt that one glass bottle powers a computer for 25 minutes. In addition, one tin can powers a TV for 3 hours.” Maggie Massumi

“I learnt that Chiswick is a great place to live. For example, they recycle a lot and Chiswick is very calm and quiet, plus they have a lot of recreation land.” Kai Watson

“I will choose Chiswick because it’s busy and loud and I like loud. My magic spot moment was when I heard a bird in Chiswick.” Ahmed Mohammed

S Keys

Having earned our K and E keys at Rinsgfield we had to build on our learning to complete our Earthkeeper level 1 and gain our final Y and S keys. We worked hard throughout the summer term, developing our knowledge about the world around us and how we can help look after it for the future. We also began to share our knowledge with our family and friends. By the end of the Summer term we had managed to pass level 1 and we received our S keys in a special ceremony in the secret garden.
